A new community fridge is coming to Lougheed!

Community fridges are places where anyone can access free groceries in their neighbourhood, no questions asked. 

Burnaby PCN’s Community Fridge Network is powered by community-based hosts, who maintain these free food fridges and support food security across Burnaby.  

The fridges are filled by neighbours for neighbours, running on a simple philosophy: “Take what you need. Leave what you can.” 

We are pleased to announce a new addition to our network, bringing us up to five total Burnaby Community Fridge locations. 

This fall, a new fridge is opening at St. Stephen the Martyr Anglican Church, located at 9887 Cameron Street. This will be our first fridge location in Burnaby’s Lougheed area, and we are excited to be able to bring this initiative to a new corner of Burnaby. 

This new location is made possible by the time and efforts of our new host partner at St. Stephens’ as well as by the generous donation of a brand-new fridge by Eternal Virtue, a registered charity supporting Canadians through food assistance, education, and community programs.  

While some of the fridges in our network operate indoors on BCIT and SFU campuses, the new Lougheed fridge and others will be placed outside for ‘round the clock access. 

Fridges that run 24/7 outdoors have to work significantly harder than their indoor counterparts — especially in the more extreme weather we have increasingly been seeing in Burnaby. Thank you to Eternal Virtue — it is a gift to have a fridge in top condition for this job!
