Burnaby Cares: Neighbours Supporting Neighbours
Mutual aid and solidarity are at the heart of a caring community.
Help make Burnaby a place where we care for one another by lending a hand to folks in your neighbourhood.
We recognize that neighbours are more than just the people with whom we share a building or a fence. Burnaby is a vastly diverse place — home to a high volume of newcomers to Canada, and built on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ [Halk-uh-MAY-lum] and sḵwx̱wú7mesh [Squa-HO-o-meesh] speaking people.
We are in community with our precariously housed and homeless neighbours, neighbours living in poverty, and those facing different barriers to accessing basic necessities like healthcare, housing, food, or internet access.
If you have the means, please consider contributing to a community organization or initiative in your neighbourhood.

Community Care in Your Neighbourhood
Supporting Our Community
Thousands of residents in Burnaby are accessing food hubs on a weekly basis. In order to continue to provide a selection of fresh, canned, and culturally appropriate food to individuals and families in Burnaby we need to raise funds. There is a network of organizations that operate food hubs and food hamper programs in Burnaby, supported by the United Way and coordinated by the Burnaby Neighbourhood House.
To contribute food to an organization please connect with Simone Brandl, Program Director, Burnaby Neighbourhood House firstname.lastname@example.org.

The Burnaby Community Fridge Program provides free, healthy groceries in a safe, low barrier and nonjudgmental way. It provides a place for people in our neighbourhoods to give and take, to reduce waste and feed their children better. It builds and enhances our food security in Burnaby. Find a fridge near you, take what you need, and leave what you can!
Digital Access Burnaby
Seniors, families and individuals in Burnaby are in need of phones, tablets and computers (laptops) to stay connected during COVID-19.
Burnaby needs your help! Many people in Burnaby still do not have a device that can connect to the internet.
As we all continue to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19, connecting to our family and social supports, work opportunities and learning is happening often online. It is vitally important that seniors, families, and individuals that need devices have a way to access them. Digital Access Burnaby is now asking for financial contributions so that devices can be purchased for those in need. London Drugs has kindly offered to sell devices at cost.
Since COVID-19, Burnaby Neighbourhood House (BNH) collaborating with the PCN under “Digital Access Burnaby”, has been seeking donations of used tech devices and have recently received a donation of tech devices from Microsoft and an anonymous donation of $1000. These are amazing contributions! But too many people still need devices.
Contributions have also gone towards purchasing phone minutes. We want to ensure that device recipients have the paid talk time they need to call their family and friends, to access services and make medical appointments.
